Tom Pheffer Welcome back!
Tom Pheffer Now take your turn please...
[Ser/Dame] Jon Snow has been knighted
Jon Snow resigned from "Sikatuna's Game"
Eo'Han I love this game I've just joined, "4 Europeans, June2016"
Eo'Han As England, I have one castle and two boats
Eo'Han and dickish attitude
Dontos Yes, that was the other game I was ousted from. But you're welcome to 'barge into' one out of two ;)
Dontos Hmm, wasn't that the one where I had sailed from England to Africa? One castle? Really? Oh, my, sounds like that Wolf really got a hold of my behind
[Ser/Dame] ThreeFingerHobb has been knighted
Eo'Han Hmm no everyone looks pretty starved overall
Eo'Han Black death or some shit
[Ser/Dame] SansaStark has been knighted
SansaStark It is my first game
Eo'Han Welcome aboard! Hope you won't be bored!
Dontos I wish I could take a spectator's seat. Eo'Han, have you considered implementing something like that?
Dontos If I log out, I can "spectate" some newly finished games, but not ongoing ones, as far as I can tell
Eo'Han It's possible, yes
Eo'Han If you open up your browser's Javacript console and type openGame(id), where id is a finished game's number, then it can be spectated
Eo'Han Of course there is the issue of players not wanting foreign eyes to butt in with advise to fellow players
Eo'Han to their rivals, even
Dontos ok, do you mean, if I spectate a game with three players, A, B, and C
Dontos and I suggest moves to A, then B might feel like he's not playing against A anymore, but rather an enhanced A, and think it unfair?
Dontos I can see how that might apply in the case where A and B know each other
Dontos or even if B has played A before and is starting to be able to predict his play style
Dontos I personally don't think it would be unfair to accept advice from others, as long as that other is not privy to your opponents secrets
Dontos but I can see how people's opinions might vary on that
Dontos of course, player C could suggest moves to player A, with B being none the wiser, in the current system
Dontos but if spectator comments are an issue, then surely it would be possible to set it up so that spectators have no way in-game way to comment
Dontos also, Eo'Han, you said:
Dontos "If you open up your browser's Javacript console and type openGame(id), where id is a finished game's number, then it can be spectated"
Dontos do you mean ongoing game?
Dontos 'cause otherwise it doesn't answer my question
Dontos besides, where would I find the correct id? It doesn't appear in the url
Dontos I can see a scenario where I'm playing a game, and a spectator butts in with advice
Dontos and I need to decide if I'm going to trust the spectator with information about what I'm thinking
Dontos information that he might take to my opponent
Dontos so I might even prefer not to share my train of thought
Dontos on the other hand, a big part of my enjoyment of this game comes from discussing the possibilities presented by the current situation
Dontos with anyone who wants to listen to me, going on and on, like I'm doing now... ;)
Gerold Gower i think they call it kibbutzing
Dontos ok? never heard of that *googles*
Dontos kibitz: To offer unwanted or meddlesome advice, such as that given by the spectator of a card game.
Dontos yeah, that is yet another aspect of it, what if the player being advised feels that it is meddlesome
Dontos One way to deal with that would be to implement it in such a way, that there would be a formal way for a spectator to offer advice
Dontos The player would receive a notification: Spectator X wants to offer you advice. Do you accept?
Dontos and if the player declines, the spectator would get feedback, that the player does not want advice
Dontos or something
Dontos but I think usually, such convention just develop automatically in the specific culture on that forum/game/whatever
Dontos There could be a way to allow/disallow spectators joining/commenting etc
Dontos could be decided by creator of that particular game instance, or by player votes or something
Dontos but if we just want to keep it simple, then maybe just allow spectators to spectate but not comment
Dontos of course, simplest way would be to not implement it at all, and just keep it as it is, which is fine. This was just idle speculation
Dontos one downside of it could be that it might slow down games, if people are stalling with their moves while discussions are ongoing
Dontos But somehow, I don't think that will be a problem

Ponderous :( Things do seem slower here now.
Dontos I was hoping to wrap up some of those games before my baby is born, as I don't expect to have as much time for this after that
Ponderous First one?
Ponderous Best of luck, Ser Dontos! We'll miss you in lists, but that's a good reason not to be there.
